LCHS College Week

In November, Logan County High School held its first annual College Week.  Over the course of the week, students were able to participate in a variety of events.  Each day, a “College of the Day” was announced.  On that day, students learned information about the university and answered questions about it at lunch for a chance to win prizes.  On each of these days, college professors and graduate students came to the school to meet with students and discuss the College of the Day.  Representatives from Western Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, Murray State University, and Austin Peay State University came on their school’s day to discuss programs in areas such as agriculture, engineering, health science, architecture, occupational safety and health, and nursing.  Students attended informational sessions and had opportunities to ask questions from the college’s representatives.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the College Info Road Show bus was at the high school to provide information to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors about financial planning for college.  Additionally, teachers planned activities in their classrooms to reinforce the goal of making higher education a reality for all students.  They discussed their own college experiences with students, and some even brought in pictures of themselves from their college days.

The week culminated in a College Fair attended by students from all grade levels.  Students went to the auxiliary gymnasium to meet with admission representatives from a variety of colleges.  Students answered questions afterward for chances to win scientific calculators and other prizes.  The following colleges were in attendance:  Bowling Green Technical College, Madisonville Community College, Hopkinsville Community College, Murray State University, Western Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, Brescia University, Union College, and Kentucky Wesleyan.

The guidance department was pleased with the participation for College Week and hopes to make it an annual event.
