SENIORS – 5 things must have completed for college admission:

1.      Register for ACT if not already done so.  See below

2.     Complete FAFSA on-line – Free Application for Federal Student Assistance –Available January, 2010 –Must have a pin number before completing the FAFSA.  Go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply for pin number.  The FAFSA website is www.fafsa.ed.gov.   

www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov  -- is a on-line tool that helps students and parents determine their current eligibility for federal student aid. 

3.     Apply for admission to any post-secondary institution- NOW if not already.

4.     Search for scholarships --some listed below.

5.     Students need to check with me weekly or at least every other regarding new scholarships. 

 

ACT information--- Packets are available in the guidance office or register on-line at www.actstudent.org. Registering on-line is faster and your site is instantly given to you, but you must print out your admission ticket.  ACT fee waivers are available for juniors and seniors who qualify for free or reduced lunch, see guidance dept. Remaining ACT test date is June 12.  Must be registered by May 7.

                Scholarship Recipients -- for students and parents

May 26 – Senior graduation practice last block

May 27 – Senior breakfast at 8:00(sponsored by Youth Service Ctr) Graduation 

                practice following until 11:15 --Last day for students-out at 1:00 PM

May 30 – Graduation at 2:00 PM

Other information:

*WKU and Bowling Green Community College are offering some summer classes for current seniors especially for those needing some developmental course work.   Free tutoring, access to computer labs, structured study groups, and many more great opportunities are available. -- See Guidance Dept. for more information.

Scholarships: Listed in Date order (Always follow all directions and give yourself plenty of time to complete applications.  If letter of recommendations are required, give those writing the letter a two week notice.  Contact the college of interest for academic and departmental scholarships.  Each school has different deadlines.) 

 

April 23East Logan Water District – two awarded at $1,000 each.   Essay

                 involved, must have water service and be in good standing

 

              *Auburn Rotary/Murrel Rogers Schol .– based on attendance, grades,

                citizenship, and financial need and be a graduate of Auburn Middle School

 

                 *Kevin L. Price – F.O.P. Memorial Scholarship- $500 -must be from the

                  A’ville community/or graduate from Adairville Middle School.

 

                *Summer Employment Opportunity – must be age 16 to 21, based on

                 student and parent income.  Applications in guidance office or can apply on-

                 line at www.bradd.org.

 

April 27 – Logan County Kiwanis Club -$500 – essay of 500 words or less – due to

                  guidance dept.

 

April 30 – Logan Memorial Healthcare Study Scholarship – health care majors

 

                 *KY School Plant Management Association Scholarship Program -

                 *NAACP – if not a member of NAACP, must request membership.

                                     Must have a 2.5 or better GPA

 

                *Dockins Vocational Scholarship – for any senior FCCLA member

 

May 1 – Kentucky Horse Council Equine Schol. – intended for majors in this area

 

May 3 – Logan County Republican Women’s Club – female

 

May 7 – Logan County Democratic Woman’s Club – female

 

May 8 – Minority Resources Unlimited – copy of parents current year income tax

               forms is required plus other info. –Application must be received by this date,

               not post-marked.

 

               *Learning Tree – for a student pursuing a career in the arts.  Application

               must be received by this date, not post-marked.

 

May 15 – Mary Jo Young Scholarship – for current 10 & 11 graders who will be

                taking college credit or AP courses next year.  Priority goes to those

                receiving free or reduced lunch.

 

May 17 – Balanced Man – Sigma Phi Epsilon – for males attending Murray

 

May 28 – B. Davis Scholarship – Creators of the “ScholarshipQuestHelper” website

are offering a scholarship for 2010.

June 1 – *ABAK Agriculture Scholarship Program – must be an agriculture major

               *4-H Horse Council Scholarship – must be enrolled as a current member

June 18 – Balanced Man Scholarship - $500 –for freshmen male attending Ky

                 Wesleyan College

 

June 24 - BigSun Scholarship - $500.00 -The successful applicant will be a

                   high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently

                   involved in some sport at that institution or in the community.

October 8, 2010 – AES Engineers –$500 - applicants are not required to take

                        Engineering  courses to be eligible.  Submit an essay of no more than

                        1000 words in  answer to one of the two questions that are posted on the

March 31 – The Sporting Times –two WKU Scholarships – from Oct. to end of March any student can submit an article with a picture to the Sporting Times that is relative to your school or community.  Article must be a min. or 400 words and no more than 700.  Photo sent in a jpeg format. Articles are due the 20th of each month with picture with it.  Email to dlt.sportingtimes@gmail.com
