A note from Mrs. Speck....

Dear Class of 2010 Student and Parents:

Congratulations!!!  You now are a SENIOR, so make the very best of your last year at LCHS.  Some general information, dates, and reminders are below.

General Information:

·        Check your agenda book on pages 8-9 to make sure you have all the classes needed for graduation.

·        If there are problems on your schedule make sure it is a requirement issue, notify me only ONCE by e-mail, phone or tell homeroom teacher.  The latter choice is preferred.  I will work on any major requirement issues first.  Since English is the only required class for most of you, schedules should be good, because you were to select many appropriate electives.

·        Visit colleges, ask questions, and start making decisions about life after high school.

·        ACT – now given in September.  Must be registered a month before test dates, which are Sept. 12, Oct. 24, Dec. 12, Feb. 6,  April 10, and June 12.  First three dates are recommended for seniors.  Packets are available in guidance office or online at www.actstudent.org   Fee waivers are available for free/reduced lunch students for a maximum of two times. (NOTE:  WKU requires a composite of 20; Murray -18; and UK is based on percentage of GPA, ACT, completed application, etc.)  Research school of your choice.

·        Scholarship information will be available as I receive it; local scholarships are mostly in the spring.  Students should check with me every two to three weeks beginning in Sept., search on-line and use any other resources.  Check with college/technical school for departmental and academic scholarships, most college academic scholarships will be due by Jan. 15.

·        Financial Aid – LCHS will host two workshops.  FAFSA-(Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and is much faster than the paper application.  Do not complete the FAFSA until after Jan. 1, 2010, ok to look at site and gather information needed.  Priority deadline for completing the FAFSA is March 15.  A PIN number is required if applying online; go to www.pin.ed.gov, which can be done at any time.  Another helpful site is www.kheaa.com.

·        If you have a new e-mail address, please notify me.

·        Yearbooks will go on sale in the fall.   Make sure senior pictures have been made with Kent Bryant Photography.  They can be reached at (270-782-8747 or  www.kentbryantphotography.com.   Mrs. Bonnie Hartley is the sponsor and can be reached at Bonnie.hartley@logan.kyschools.us  For the senior composite picture all formals must made with Kent Bryant Photography.

·        Fees –Seniors will be required to pay all fees before graduating.
